Hello 👋 I’m Niklas.

I’m a Senior Full Stack Engineer with 8+ years of experience, specialized in Vue/Nuxt and certified in Vue.js and React. At Heiland I led the split of a monolithic Node.js backend into 20+ Lambda functions and 4 Beanstalk microservices, built an event-driven cashback payout system for 1,500+ veterinary practices, a multi-tenant booking tool and a Vue 3/Nuxt 3 frontend split, and mentored 2 junior developers.

I build with AI agents, spec first: I define the structure, the agent writes code inside it, and I review the result against the requirements. New products start with GitHub Spec Kit, existing codebases with OpenSpec. On NearAsk, a mobile app that finds local shops for a specific product, I talked through open questions with Claude, researched third-party providers and wrote the decisions down as specs before any code existed. Many problems showed up there, where fixing them cost a conversation instead of a rewrite.

Maintenance runs the same way. On Kinderleicht, a booking platform for a family-course studio, a nightly Claude routine takes labeled GitHub issues and opens pull requests, and every morning I review each PR against its ticket’s requirements. Here’s one maintenance session in detail.

I work remote-first and I'm currently traveling through South America as a digital nomad. That puts me in flexible timezones — convenient overlap with both European and Americas client hours, so async-friendly collaboration just works.

My Philosophy

My philosophy is rooted in understanding the problem before touching the code. I believe great engineering starts with understanding the 'why' — the business need, the user's pain point, or the architectural constraint — before jumping to solutions. That’s also why I write specs before an agent writes code: the thinking happens up front, where changing your mind is cheap.

I strive to write clean, maintainable code that not only solves today's problem but doesn't become tomorrow's tech debt. I follow established patterns and best practices, but I'm pragmatic — the goal is working software, not perfect abstractions.

What Drives Me

I'm most energized by problems that have real complexity underneath — legacy systems that need untangling, migrations that look impossible on paper, or integrating new technology like AI into products that weren't built for it. I like owning things end-to-end and leaving codebases in better shape than I found them.

Beyond the Screen

If I'm not in front of my laptop, I'm most likely travelling 🗺️⁀જ✈︎, scuba diving 🤿 or playing table tennis 🏓
